Tampa, FL – Trenam Law is pleased to announce that shareholder Lansing C. Scriven received the Outstanding Lawyer Award given by the Hillsborough County Bar Association (HCBA). The award was presented at the HCBA’s Diversity Membership Luncheon on January 10, 2018 at the Hilton Downtown Tampa.
Lanse is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Group and concentrates his practice in the area of business litigation and bar/professional ethics defense. Complementary to his litigation practice, Lanse has served as a Special Prosecutor for the Florida Judicial Qualifications Commission since 1994. He is AV-rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been recognized in Best Lawyers of America, Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, and Thomson Reuter’s Florida Super Lawyers.
From 2009 – 2017, Lanse served on the Florida Bar Board of Governors as a representative for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit (Hillsborough County). While on the Board of Governors, Lanse served as Chair of the Budget Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board Review Committee on Professional Ethics. In 2015, Lanse was elected by fellow governors to the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors. Lanse has also served as Co-Chair of The Florida Bar’s Annual Convention Committee. In 2015, Lanse was appointed to the Board of Governors’ Special Committee on the 2017 Florida Constitution Revision Commission.
Lanse also has a distinguished record of service in his local bar community. He is a past President of the Hillsborough County Bar Association, the Florida Chapter of the National Bar Association (“NBA”), and the George Edgecomb Bar Association, the Tampa-based chapter of the NBA. In 2012, Lanse was the recipient of the National Bar Association’s Heman Sweatt Award for excellence and exemplary service in the legal profession.
In addition to his work as a bar leader, Lanse has devoted substantial time to several community and civic organizations, including service on the board of directors of Tampa General Hospital, Tampa Housing Authority, Moffitt Cancer Center Foundation, the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay, the Gasparilla Festival of the Arts, and the Innocence Project of Florida. He has also served as Legal Counsel to the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Lanse graduated from Duke University in 1984 and earned his law degree, with honors, from Florida State University College of Law in 1987. While enrolled at Florida State, Lanse served as an editor of the Florida State University Law Review and a member of the law school’s Moot Court team. Following graduation from law school, Lanse clerked for the Honorable Joseph W. Hatchett, former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
