In a Daily Business Review Q&A-styled article published on March 20, 2018, Trenam Law’s Managing Shareholder Marie Tomassi provided and in-depth look inside Trenam’s breadth of practices, governance structure, commitment to client relationships and opportunities for the future in the growing Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg communities.
With about 80 lawyers and offices in both Tampa and St. Petersburg, Trenam considers itself a regional firm, advising clients on everything you’d expect from a commercial law firm. The firm’s leadership includes a five-person executive board, business professional leaders and practice group leaders. “We’ve been very lucky to have long-term relationships in most of our employment positions,” Tomassi said. “We have professionals who have been at the firm for more than 30 years, which is very useful for the strength of our staff.”
Given the firm’s deep roots in the Tampa Bay region, the firm continues to leverage its strong relationships in the community to assist with the many new developments and companies moving to the region. “Looking out my window in our St. Pete Office, there is a building that is under construction and close to completion with two cranes on it. Looking to the left, there’s another one, and St. Pete isn’t alone,” Tomassi said. “We believe our greatest opportunities come from building relationships and truly trying to be on the forefront of our clients’ needs. The goal is to be helpful in a proactive manner as we see their needs coming down the pipe – not just responsive or reactive.”
Because of the firm’s emphasis on and success with relationship building, Tomassi notes that the firm has been fortunate to keep a nice pace of work over the years. “The Tampa Bay region is a different market because you have to be a part of it by spending time here, getting to know people and giving to the community,” she said. “That’s often harder for a larger firm that comes in from afar.”
