On November 4, 2019, Tampa Bay Business Journal highlighted Marie Tomassi and her recent promotion to serve as President of Trenam Law, which marks the firm’s first woman president and coincides with the celebration of Trenam’s 50th anniversary. Following her elevation, Marie now serves a dual role as both Managing Shareholder and President of Trenam.
Marie praised the firm’s historical leadership in gender advancement, citing policies for schedule flexibility to work less than full time that allow attorneys to spend more time with their families without being taken off the partnership track. “I always thought we were a thought leader and action leader in ways to make women have an equal chance of success,” Marie said. “But it’s more to me the excitement of taking this role as just to see that further along.”
Marie succeeds founding member Hal Mullis, who was appointed to serve as firm President in 1994. “This is part of the natural evolution and transition of leadership that the firm has been working on for some time,” Tate Taylor told the publication. “We’re extremely fortunate that Hal Mullis has served as a president for as many years, his strong leadership and the way he’s impacted the culture of the firm for so long.”
“Hal was ready to take the next step in his career, and the board being very pleased with the leadership that Marie has given the firm in her role as managing shareholder for the last six to seven years, we thought it was appropriate to be appointed as the firm’s president,” Taylor added.
“I hope I will fulfill the expectations,” Marie said. “I certainly can’t fill Hal’s shoes. I don’t think anybody I know can fill Hal’s shoes.”
