Adam Brouillet was quoted in the February 7, 2022 article by Legaltech News discussing the potential data risks for firms leveraging collaborative tools like Microsoft Teams, Slack and other messaging apps.
While Brouillet says he hasn’t seen an uptick in law firm clients dealing with incidents stemming from messaging apps, he noted that firms need to adjust security and access controls to limit exposure risks.
“I think when it comes to using these collaboration tools, a lot of best practices that apply to securing your data held elsewhere, such as email or other software products, apply to these collaboration tools,” he said. “For example, that would include using multifactor authentication, having an understanding of who has access to these tools and what permissions or authorizations they’re given. In the event their accounts are compromised, you want to mitigate the risk a compromised account could have.”
