Charitable Engagements with our Community

[/one-half]At Trenam, we believe in the power of improving the lives of people in need, especially children. Following the tumultuous hurricane-related disasters of 2017, we recognized both the significantly increased need and opportunity to help make positive, enduring, and meaningful changes in our local communities, especially for future generations. And so we partnered with Bay Area organizations whose missions aligned with our goals by focusing on providing basic needs, or ensuring access to education and resources to families and children. Below are summaries of a few of the organizations we chose to support in 2018.
The Children Are Our Future
Crossroads for Florida Kids
Crossroads for Florida Kids’ mission is to provide much needed advocacy for vulnerable children in dependency proceedings, and act as Attorneys ad Litem for child and young adult clients in delinquency and criminal divisions.
These complex cases frequently involve issues of mental, physical, and emotional neglect and/or abuse, and require a significant commitment from these pro bono attorneys, often lasting several years. Volunteer attorneys take on specific client representations and recruit additional attorneys from within the community to help the network grow.
Voices for Children of Tampa Bay
Voices for Children of Tampa Bay (VCF) provides support and advocacy for abused, neglected, and abandoned children, in partnership with the Guardian ad Litem Program of Hillsborough County. VCF makes kids’ lives a little easier as they navigate the court system and foster care, and work to ensure these children have safe, loving, and permanent homes.
Of its many successful programs, its most creative and interesting is Florida’s first Courthouse Facility Dog Program, where a trained facility dog helps to calm traumatized children so they find their voice and share what happened to them.
Metropolitan Ministries
Metropolitan Ministries focuses its efforts on helping the poor, particularly the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless, in our community. It provides support services and direct aid that alleviate suffering, promote dignity, and produce a true sense of self-sufficiency, even in the hardest of times for families.
As a completely grassroots, donor and volunteer-fueled community nonprofit, Metropolitan Ministries provides support with housing, nutrition and food access, and life skills programs for families. Specific youth education programs include a K-5 Partnership School, Parent-Child Home, First Hug, and Youth Enrichment programs, in addition to the Promise Land Early Childhood Education Center.
A Brighter Community
As the oldest non-profit pre-school in Tampa, A Brighter Community (as it is currently known), has been dedicated for more than 90 years to creating a better future for at risk children by building a supportive foundation through education and quality programming.
Opened in 1922 (as The Tampa Day Nursery), ABC has provided service to more than 9,000 children and families, and more than 3,000 children have been prepared for Kindergarten. ABC is a nationally accredited preschool and family support center serving economically and environmentally at risk children, ages 3 – 5 years.
Glazer Children’s Museum
The Glazer Children’s Museum is helping raise the Imagination Generation by encouraging children to play with purpose in an interactive learning environment. In its learning laboratory setting, children play, discover, and connect with the world around them to develop skills as lifelong learners and leaders.
By providing professional, curated, learner accessible, and exciting programs in a safe, warm, and nurturing space with a community where everyone is included, the Museum (and its incredible staff) allows kids to imagine and explore their potential.
Spotlight: Tampa Bay Wave
What started as a peer group for local entrepreneurs, Tampa Bay Wave is now a leading tech accelerator supporting more than 150 tech startups and 250 entrepreneurs in the local community. Driven by its mission to help Tampa Bay’s tech entrepreneurs build and shape the future of technology, Tampa Bay Wave has become a nationally recognized accelerator program.
Tampa Bay Wave empowers entrepreneurs to build their businesses by providing product development and market validation support, in addition to access to capital opportunities. Once a venture launches, they are provided scalable business validation support, as well as access to angel investors and other sources of capital. And as they grow their businesses into successful ventures, Tampa Bay Wave provides ongoing business building and high growth programs and tools to reach their full potential.
